Dr. Senthil Kumar graduated from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry. He completed his surgical residency in 1995 and was awarded the S.B Sen Gold medal for the best outgoing postgraduate in the university, in general surgery. After completing three years of senior residency, he pursued higher surgical training in the UK. He was awarded the fellowship of the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. In the UK, after completing a research fellowship, he gained experience in various sub specialities in surgery including colorectal, endocrine, vascular, upper GI, hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery and liver transplantation. He has worked in major Hepatobiliary and liver transplantation units in the UK including The Royal Free Hospital, The Royal London Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth hospital, Birmingham. He obtained the certificate of completion of specialist training (CCT) in 2011. He has in addition been trained in diagnostic and therapeutic Upper and Lower GI endoscopy, laparoscopy, emergency and trauma surgery. He has been an instructor in the Advanced Trauma Life Support course (ATLS) and the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient course (CCrISP), in the UK. His current areas of interests include living donor liver transplantation, multi-organ retrieval and the management of primary liver malignancies. |
