Pathology

The pathology department at ILBS continuously strives towards excellence in quality with focus on patient care, clinical excellence and forward looking research and academics. We have constantly endeavoured to support clinicians in offering the best treatment to their patients by offering them assurance of quality and the technical know-how. A well-equipped laboratory and a team of highly efficient, knowledgeable, motivated and qualified technicians to operate specialised equipment, who work in unison with dedicated and motivated pathologists to attain optimum standards in every test results. We are committed to delivering reliable, fast, affordable diagnostic services with uncompromising commitment to ethics and best in laboratory practices. The department is actively involved in academic activities with PDCC candidates being enrolled every six months, who then participate in weekly discussions and presentations. There is in totality, a holistic environment with a perfect blend of both diagnostics as well as research-oriented projects.

New services & facilities added to the department in 2025

  • Expanded immunohistochemical markers INSM-1,NAPSIN,TdT,SALL-4,CD23,for diagnostic, management and prognostic needs
  • Started semen analysis.
  • Automation of slides with whole slide imaging scanner systum
    Whole slide imaging (WSI)
    WSI is a system capable of capturing entire slides at high resolution in a time efficient fashion and a provision of whole tissue capture which can serve for routine diagnostic purpose as well as an efficient teaching tool.The department is now equipped with digital scanner with a slide holding capacity of 12 glass slides and a scanning time of 2.5 minutes for a high resolution scan.

Educational Activities

  • a. Details of the Educational activities (CME/Conf/workshop) hosted by the department in 2025:
    14th Dr. V. Ramalingaswami Oration and Liquid Biopsy Workshop was held on 8th August 2025. This one-day meeting was a rich academic session and included Oration followed by a liquid biopsy workshop which gave hands on experience of NGS technology to all the participants.The workshop programme included library preparation ,library quantification and sequencer demonstration.
    Oration Speaker & topic of their talks were as follows:
    Dr Richard Finn, Professor clinical medicine, UCLA David Geffen school of medicine
    Topic: Maximising patient outcomes in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma.
