Biochemistry (metabolic Medicine & Immunopathology)

Biochemistry

Biochemistry focuses on processes happening at a molecular level. The Department of Biochemistry makes a conscientious effort to provide the judicious and explicit use of best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. The lab provides quality services, round the clock through well-trained staff, modern equipment and a good management team which is proven by the NABL accreditation

Clinical Biochemistry is central to diagnostics with thousand of tests performed daily to guide patient's therapy. Our lab includes testing for general chemistries ,specific proteins, hormones, vitamins ,tumor markers ,therapeutic drug monitoring ,dynamic LFT, immunoglobulins, tests for antibodies of autoimmune diseases and point-of-care testing (ABG/STAT creatinine). The technologies include spectrophotometry, chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA), nephlometry, ELISA, Western blot and Immunoflourescence microscopy. There are structured frame works for ensuring consistency in the quality of services to meet user's or customer needs. Our goal is to give the right result at the right time, on the right specimen, from the right patient with right result interpretation based on correct reference data, and at the right price. These objectives represent good laboratory practice (GLP).Quality is a habit for us.

Our Laboratory activities are spread out among several units:

  • Emergency Biochemistry Lab-unit: Emergency testing service is provided for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The emergency tests include electrolytes, enzymes, gas and pH in whole blood and body fluids. Other urgent tests such as Troponin I, Ammonia, CK, CK-MB , and NT-proBNP are also provided.
  • Routine Blood Testing Unit: Tests performed in this unit include renal function, liver function, heart, specific proteins, lipid profile, iron indices,HbA1c,amylase,lipase,ACE, urine NGAL,bile acids, routine testing of urine and various fluids, measurement of osmolality, etc
  • The Immunology Unit: This unit conducts various immunology tests and autoimmune markers by Immunofluorescence, Blot and ELISA methods for ANA, ASMA,p-ANCA, c-ANCA, Autoimmune Liver profile, ENA profile, ASCA,TTG,Chromogranin,PRA,Food Allergy and Peth.

  • The Endocrinology and Cancer Marker Unit: Various hormonal blood tests are conducted such as Thyroid function tests, Insulin,PTH,Vit.B12,Vitamin-D3,IL-6,Testosterone, Cortisol&Folate. Additionally, the unit is responsible for testing various cancer markers such as CA 125, CEA, CA 19-9, AFP, PSA,Free PSA and PIVKA II.
  • The Unit for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM): Conducts drug level testing of the blood Tacrolimus.
  • Special tests Unit: Carries out some special tests such as immunoglobulins IgG, IgA, IgM,IgE, IgG4, Total Homocysteine (indication for CAD), C3, C4,hsCRP, IL-6, TNF and ELF.
